Terms

This is for everyone who may not know what the terms I mostly use in this blog mean. Some people may be new to alterhumanity, and that's okay, so here's a useful list of basic terms that the community uses! They will be sorted alphabetically, of course.

Alterhuman

Alterhuman (derived from the term 'Alternative Humanity Personal Identity' also known as AHPI) is a category of personal identity which encompasses identification that is alternative to the common societal idea of humanity.

Otherhearted

The term 'otherhearted', refers to someone who involuntarily identifies with, or who has a strong connection with something. This 'something' can be anything, including (but not limited too) animals (animalhearted), fictional characters (fictionhearted), and even inanimate objects (this would be considered otherhearted). The term can be spelt with or without a hyphen (e.g. otherhearted, other-hearted), however, it is more commonly spelt without the hyphen.

Nonhuman

To identify as not human either fully or partially. Used both as an umbrella term and a standalone identity.

Therian

A therianthrope, most simply, is someone who involuntarily identifies as a non-human animalistic creature. Therians are able to identify as more than one creature at a time. These identities can be: physical, non-physical, mythological, earth animals and more.

Otherkin

Otherkin (otherkind) are those who identify as not entirely human on a non-physical level.

The difference between otherkin and therianthropy is kintypes (theriotype), which can be generally described as mythological, e.g.: dragons, fae (magical creatures), angels, demons, satyrs, and others.

As with therians, the identity someone identifies as is considered to be involuntary.
