Plurality 101
Introduction
Hello! We're the Void Council, a plural system of mostly nonhuman members! We created this little corner to maintain a record on members of the system with a bit of a summary of each one, and a bit of information on plural systems. Below we explain information on plural systems, and we explain in depth about our origins and personal lore on each member, especially on our fictives.
We want to maintain this website as a personal and safe space for ourselves, so this is a discourse-free zone. We won't discuss which side is more valid or which deserves recognition, or origins, as this doesn't matter to us. However, we believe that the over-medicalization on plural systems is harmful for both sides of syscourse. We believe that each system can choose for themselves which label they want to use for themselves, and that those that want to perpetuate hate regardless of origin should stay away from our site. Trying to impose your own beliefs in other people, people who oppose your beliefs, is wrong and harmful. It perpetuates harassment and alianation.
With that out of the way, we want to disclose that we're inclusive to all types of systems and plurals: Medians, endogenic systems, disordered systems (DID, OSDD, or other dissociative disorders, traumagenic systems, mixed origins, whatever.
If you're (visitor of this page) not familiar with what I'm talking about and think I'm spouting nonsense, we've made a little section where we explain basic info below. Click on the little "What's a system" and I'll do my best to explain plurality and systemhood.
What's a system?
A system is a collective of people or entities sharing the same body. Plurality, as a whole, is the state of having multiple headmates collectively sharing a single body. A group of headmates may be referred to as a system. Plural experiences are extremely diverse, and systems may vary in their origin, functions, distinction between members, member count, and internal communication.
Headmates are generally assumed to have their own unique personality. They often have their own names, pronouns, goals, and preferences. Some systems may prefer to be addressed collectively, while members of others may prefer to be treated as more separate individuals.
Plurality is, to put it simple, being more than one. It can be caused by several factors, including trauma, stress, creation by the individual or just... because. Not a lot is known about why exactly it happens, but we can categorize plurality in two groups: Disordered and non-disordered. Research nostly covers disordered plurality, as the information known about it is aimed at bettering mental health in these types of systems. But just because there's not a lot of medical research on other types of system, it doesn't mean they don't exist. They are simply not explained by medical science that in-depth. However, a lot of profesionals have recognized non-disordered plurality as real in recent years.
Disordered plurality is also known as dissociative disorders. These disorders are mostly caused by childhood trauma (as research indicates), and involve dissociation to deal with it. People with this disorder split to protect the mind from trauma at a really young age, using dissociation as a coping mechanism to keep the person safe. The sense of identity of the person eventually fragments, and these fragments forms alters, or alternate senses of self, that take control of the body and keeps it safe from traumatic memories and situations.
However, there's other ways to be plural, and this is called non-disordered plurality. Non-disordered plurality can be classified in three main groups: Traumagenic plurality, endogenic plurality, and mixed-origin plurality. Some plural systems don't align themselves with any of these origins, though.
Traumagenic plurality refers to plurality that was formed because of trauma. This may or may not develop into a dissociative disorder, as some people become plural because of late trauma. Traumagenic plurality can exist regardless of diagnostic status, age of which trauma happened, or perceived severity of trauma.
Endogenic plurality refers to plurality that was caused/formed by reasons outside of trauma. It's an umbrella term that also includes willogenic plurality, in which systems are created or will their headmates into existence. However, some endogenic systems form just because, without willing members into existence (called willogenic). This may be for any reason, including loneliness, stress, or even boredom.
Mixed origins systems are systems that exist because of multiple things at the same time. This could be because they formed because of a multitude of factors at the same time, or that members have different origins.
Some plurals have an inner world, which may offer any number of mechanisms, interactions, and experiences.
Our system
Main fronters
In our systems, we mostly front if we're triggered or something happens, not just at random. Because of this, we have some members that are more equiped in our day-to-day life, because they know the people we normally meet with, they can keep up with college assignments, meetings, etc. We have a host in the system, but headmates step in if needed.
Generally, Charlie, Orion and Nero are the headmates that front the most. Charlie and Nero are the most proficent with it. While we do have amnesia barriers between members, these are lifted if stress is low or if there's not a major event happening.

Origins
In this little section I will go more in depth on origins and mention a bit of syscourse. This is a topic that I know it will come out, and I prefer to clean my stance forst of all. If you don't like this topic and wish to avoid it, close the little accordion again. If you don't share my opinion, I don't care. Remember, this is our website, with our opinions and views. You've been warned.
All that said, we've been a part of the system community basically as long as we've known we were a system. Is basically unavoidable if we're in the system part of tumblr. We've been aware of our own plurality since april 2025, more or less, but we've been a system for way longer, we just didn't know it yet. We've seen both parts of syscourse, and before we knew of our own system we were anti endo, but after learning the difference between plurality and multiplicity, and the pathological part of plurality and the social part of it, we've leaned toward pro-endogenic as our stance, as the community is kinder and just... a pleasure to be in, honestly.
We're... not exactly sure on what is our origin. We first identified as endogenic, later, as stressgenic, when we started discovering a pattern of splitting because of stress, later as traumagenic, as we discovered that some experiences we went through in our childhood were not exactly... normal. Nowadays, we identify as mixed-origin (as we've created a few headmates in the past), but we generally don't care. It's nobody's business except our own.
Syscourse (long rant)
First of all, plurality and multiplicity are very different, from what we've researched and gathered. Plurality is just "being more than one", and encompases endogenic, traumagenic and mixed-origins plurality. Most important of all, plurality is inherently non-disordered. And it's different for every system. Some are plural because of trauma, some are plural because of spiritual reasons, some are plural just because, some are plural because of a variety of reasons and some don't know or want to know. A system's origins is nobody's business except for the system itself.
Multiplicity, on the other paw, is a word dissociative systems have used to describe their experiences. This is also the word most accepted by medical professionals. However, in syscourse, most anti-endo systems will claim that plurality is the word used to describe their experiences, and endogenic systems and allys have "stolen" it. This is false.
Plurality is a word created by and for endogenic systems and allies. When syscourse first started, DID was still not that vastly researched (still called Multiple Personality Disorder), so all the community shared together their collective singularities. Plurality (or multiplicity, the experience of being "more than one") was discussed as a whole, and origins were not often discussed, so at first, all types of plurality were discussed under the same community. However, once medical research started becoming more prominent, MLP systems started claiming the need to create their own community, to explore the medical aspect of plurality and discuss medical research and ways to get better.
This was the first big separation in the community. Plurality was split into two main groups: "Natural systems", or those who were born as systems or just became systems naturally, and MPD systems or disordered systems, those who were diagnosed with a dissociative disorder. However, there were systems who didn't fit these boxes: Systems that formed because of trauma but weren't diagnosed, systems formed because of stress, systems born from spiritual reasons, systems that don't fit the diadnostic criteria for any dissociative disorders...
From this source we can gather that, when the plural community started forming on the internet (around 2014), some systems started arguing that plurality was only caused by trauma and could only exist because of it. They claimed that certain terms couldn't be used by any system who was not traumagenic, and, in retaliation, a few endogenic systems started attacking traumagenic systems. Both groups started fighting about words like "system" and "plurality" and about who owned the terms and who was "allowed" to use them, traumagenic systems started accusing non-traumagenic systems of faking, roleplaying and even invasion of their spaces, even tho the community had been a place for all plural no matter their origin. They were told to create their own terms and own community.
An idea of creating a new community for non-medical systems began, and new terms were created: Plurality, an alternative term to "multiple", traumagenic (systems formed because of trauma), and endogenic (systems not formed because of trauma, or formed for reasons other than trauma). System became a community term, but we've seen systems using "collective". These terms started circulating on tumblr, but anti-endo systems started using "traumagenic" to mean "real" systems and "endogenic" to mean "fake" systems. Then the real misinformation began, because anti endo systems started claiming that endogenic systems were claiming to be systems without trauma, faking plurality, roleplaying dissociative disorders, claiming to have DID without trauma, stealing resources, or mocking trauma survivors (and more). They started bullying and harassing endogenic systems, threats we can see even today.
In our time in the community, we've seen everything. Death threats, harassment, bullying, targeting, even doxxing and anti-endos sending triggering material to endogenic systems to drive them out of the community, claiming that the medical community wouldn't take dissociative disorders seriously because of them. Anti-endos also claimed that endogenic systems were attention-seeking, and that they created their own plurality. Obviously, not all pro-endo systems are innocent in syscourse either (like I said, we've seen everything), but, from what we've seen, anti-endos are usually the ones starting the debate all the time (not even a debate, because every time an endogenic system or pro-endo tries to clear misinformation, they are told to "respect their DNI" and "stop faking plurality"), and being unnecesarily aggresive attacking other plurals.
Endogenic doesn't mean that the system created their plurality, or they wanted to be plural. It just means "plural for reasons other than trauma". Created plurality exists, but has another term and it's another sub-community inside of the plural community, the willogenic community, meaning a system that was created purposely or willed into existence.
In our own opinion, this whole debate is pointless. Spaces for both communities have already been made, there's no coming back from that, and as much as we would want a united community, that is not going to happen. So why keep discussing it? Every week we see new anti-endo systems joining the community, spouting the same misinformation and sparkling the flame that has been put out over and over again. Same arguments discussed (and previously debunked), same misinformation brought.
In an ideal world, all sections of the plural community would be united. But this is not an ideal world.
As to our own stance in syscourse? We think anti-endos should stay in their own communities, and they should stop attacking endogenic systems. They should focus in their own recovery (fusion or functional multiplicity, or whatever) if they are CDD systems, focus in their own plurality if they are traumagenic, and stop being assholes if they are not even plural or systems. As for endogenic systems, they should inform themselves on what endogenic plurality is and what plurality is before spreading misinformation. All in all, being kind to others is not that hard. Because of this I am, and always will be, pro-endo.
